# What are knee-highs?
Over time, stockings have evolved, resulting in the knee-highs we know today. Previously, stockings were worn as breeches and came up to the mid-thigh. As clothing habits and customs changed, knee-highs started to appear. They consist of long socks which come just below the knee.
# Why wear knee-highs?
When Mes Chaussettes Rouges was created, its initial goal was to promote knee-highs. With these longer socks, you don’t have to worry about having socks which get twisted and fall down to your ankles by the end of the day. As they come up to the top of the calf, they grip nicely to the contour of the calf and stay in place throughout the day.
What’s more, as a longer sock it aesthetically covers the entire calf, bringing the shoe and suit together nicely and avoids showing the calf when wearing wide leg trousers.
# When shouldn’t you wear knee-highs?
Knee-highs can be worn all year round but knee-highs do not go with more fitted styles of trousers. This is why we also have a range of shorter socks.
