These purple Gammarelli over-the-calf socks, from the tailors to the Popes since 1798, are made from 100% Cotton Lisle.
While the legend of Gammarelli socks began with red socks, it continues with the purple socks worn by bishops, dressed in this distinctive shade of purple. They are knitted in Italy from the finest Egyptian Cotton Lisle, renowned for its fineness, lightness, and sheen.
These over-the-calf socks can be worn with great versatility: they will stand out while complementing the rest of your outfit, either creating contrast with dark colors (black, gray, navy blue) or brightening already colorful outfits. They add a delicate, elegant touch of color to your outfits, sure to catch the eye of connoisseurs.

We offer three sock heights:
1- Mid-Calf Socks
Height: mid-calf socks are long socks that reach just below the knee, right above the calf curve.
Advantages: they provide better hold and fully cover the shin. Their height is suitable to be worn with dress pants.

2- Crew Socks
Height: crew socks are short socks that reach the middle of the calf.
Advantage: they are suitable for people who wear slim-fit pants.

3- No-Show Socks
Height: no-show socks are very short socks. Two cutouts: one for sneakers that reaches below the ankle bone and one for loafers that reaches below the instep.
Advantage: no-show socks are invisible in sneakers or loafers but still protect your feet and shoes.

Black socks: really essential?
Black socks are often presented as an absolute basic… but is it really the best choice? More versatile, navy blue often offers a more elegant alternative, while very dark shades remain easy to match—provided you don’t overlook certain trouser/shoe combinations.
Before automatically opting for black, it’s better to understand its limits and uses: in two minutes, you’ll see that even classics can hold some surprises… with, as a bonus, an unexpected detour into French rock.
